Dr. Sharon Elefant, The Nonprofit Plug
Dr. Sharon Elefant is the founder of The Nonprofit Plug, a consulting and education company that helps nonprofit leaders build stronger, more sustainable organizations.
I’ve worked with Dr. Sharon and her team for more than three years, supporting the business through email marketing, content strategy, SEO, analytics, brand execution, and operational systems.
I created two recurring weekly newsletters (eight per month in total), Tip Tuesday and Nonprofit Navigator, that keep The Nonprofit Plug connected to its audience, establish Dr. Sharon’s expertise, and consistently lead readers toward paid services. We track performance and revenue each month, allowing us to see how the newsletters contribute to inquiries, conversions, and business growth.
Behind the scenes, I also implemented a new CRM that digitized the proposal, contract, invoicing, payment, and onboarding process. While I did not create the original website or brand, I’ve continued to finesse and extend the brand across every system, publication, graphic, and client-facing asset I’ve built.
I developed two distinct newsletters for The Nonprofit Plug, each designed to support a different stage of the customer journey.
Tip Tuesday delivers practical, timely guidance that nonprofit founders and leaders can put into action right away.
Nonprofit Navigator offers a broader strategic perspective for people building, managing, and growing sustainable nonprofit organizations.
Together, the newsletters help The Nonprofit Plug:
Stay visible and connected to its audience
Build trust through consistent, useful content
Reinforce Dr. Sharon’s expertise
Nurture prospective clients over time
Create a natural path from education to paid services
These newsletters are more than content sent on a schedule. They have become measurable business assets and an important entry point into The Nonprofit Plug’s sales funnel. From January through mid-July 2026, the email program was associated with more than $264,000 in attributed revenue, helping move subscribers toward discovery calls and paid services supported by the organization’s broader sales team.
revenue-generating email marketing
We review performance each month to understand how the newsletters are contributing to the business.
In addition to monitoring opens, clicks, and subscriber engagement, we track the inquiries, conversions, and revenue generated through newsletter-driven activity.
This allows us to identify:
Which topics attract the most interest
Which calls to action lead readers to take the next step
How subscribers move from content into paid services
Which content themes should be expanded or refined
The goal is not simply to publish more content. It is to understand what is working and use that information to make smarter marketing decisions.
analytics tied to actual revenue
search engine optimization
Search engine optimization is incorporated throughout my work rather than treated as a separate task at the end.
Whether I’m creating a blog post, publishing a webpage, developing newsletter content, or uploading an image, I’m always looking for opportunities to improve The Nonprofit Plug’s organic visibility.
That includes:
Writing keyword-focused H1 and H2 headings
Creating clear, keyword-rich page URLs
Structuring content so it is easy to scan and understand
Optimizing page titles and meta descriptions
Naming image files intentionally
Adding descriptive image alt text
Incorporating key phrases naturally throughout the copy
Strengthening internal links and calls to action
SEO gives every piece of content a better opportunity to keep working after it is published. It supports long-term, organic visibility without requiring the business to rely entirely on paid advertising.
Our work began with operations.
I created and implemented a new CRM process that digitized The Nonprofit Plug’s proposal, contract, invoicing, payment, and onboarding workflow.
What had previously involved multiple manual steps became a more organized and professional client journey. The new system made it easier for the team to manage prospective clients, move agreements forward, collect payments, and keep important information in one place.
The goal was not simply to introduce new software. It was to build a system that reduced administrative friction and supported the continued growth of the business.
a streamlined client experience
wordpress blog
I created and continue to manage The Nonprofit Plug’s WordPress blog as part of its broader content and visibility strategy.
Each post is developed to do more than fill a content calendar. I handle the structure, formatting, publishing, and ongoing optimization so the blog supports both the reader experience and the business’s long-term organic visibility.
That includes:
Creating and publishing SEO-focused blog content
Structuring posts with clear H1, H2, and H3 headings
Writing keyword-rich titles, URLs, and meta descriptions
Naming and optimizing images
Adding descriptive alt text
Incorporating internal links and relevant calls to action
Formatting content for readability
Updating categories, tags, excerpts, and featured images
Reviewing older content for opportunities to improve performance
The blog gives The Nonprofit Plug a growing library of useful, searchable content that can continue attracting prospective clients long after each article is published.
